KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • UNPLASTIC

Cows can be saved.Very important fact. We all learned something here.

  • LOCAL PRODUCING

Not having enough workforce to harvest, try to link part-time students.

Being locally dependent or being a local producer is mainly influenced by the sheer amount of workforce put into labor. Without extra help from part-time students for example, it is almost impossible to deliver the same local quality at a lower pricing.

  • COULD URBAN FARMING FEED THE WORLD?

Big waste in normal agriculture sector. A lot of food is spilled nowadays. Optimal food use is something we have to pay attention to first.

About creating awareness, we need to find new solutions. Just urban farming isn’t going to save the planet. We need to come up with better and more advanced solutions.

What will we do with the farmland? Is it going to be converted into new buildings? Because right now, that is what is going to happen. Good soil land will go to waste because of the mass baby production. Have a ban on max amount of babies?

Vertical farming part of the solutions. Already implemented here and there but could be more efficient. Till what extent can we use vertical farming?

Start consuming ugly food. Food that looks ‘ugly’ is not used by consumers as much as ‘regular’ food. Supermarkets barely sell ‘ugly’ food. Create more awareness of the actual investment or less of ugly food.

In 2050 there will be a 70% increase in food consumption! It might be wise to think about solutions here. If the demand rises but the supply stays the same, world hunger will arise faster than we think.

  • REPLACING MEAT

Vegetarian lifestyle, not affordable. Counterparty: Disagree, plant based, Less cost.

Vegeterian health benefits.

What do we do with animals if everyone becomes vegeterian?

Does meat add value to the dish? 1st party: Eating less meat is better for your health. Counterparty: You need meat to be healthy.

Cultural differences, some cultures brought awareness on the different lifestyles regarding eating, why didn’t we?

Urban/rural dividement.

Meat replacements: why not eat it if it tastes like meat?

If everyone makes a small change it will eventually lead to a big change

Why not eat artificially created B12 instead of meat?

In times of crisis, people love meat!

  • EAT MEAT SUSTAINABLY

Food waste/Local food. Links back to the food waste in urban farming. Is still a major issue in every food related industry. We throw away to much without considering the alternative options.

Cosmetic food surgery. Re-shaping the ‘ugly’ food. Cutting and chopping in such a way that the food looks nice again. Use spare parts of food for example for shakes.

Mathematics. 20+80=100.

Politics. How much can we actually change regarding food regulations and what laws restrict our boundaries and will to adapt?

Less money. If people have less money to buy the 20/80 dishes, can they still eat sustainably? Or will they have to fall back in old patterns?

Luxury products. Meat can be seen as a luxurious product.

The question remains: Do we really need meat?

  • FARM INNOVATIONS

Possible but not on a big scale. Easier possible for small farms due to high turn-costs for big farms when they want to change their machinery and operating systems. Small farms have lower investment costs thus can more easily adapt to innovation.

Dating app for ‘hard labour’. A lot of hard work needs to be done at farms. Farmers would like to have a so called ‘freelance’ app where they can meet&greet with strangers to help them out at the farm.

Workshops held at farms. Having small workshops at farms for elementary schools or college students to broaden their horizon and in turn support the farmers with a little bit of revenue.
